GoPro vs. Contour- The Big Differences

At first blush, the most obvious difference between the GoPro and Contour wearable cameras is pricing.  The lower end cameras in both models are priced about the same but the higher end Contour cameras tend to be a little more expensive than the GoPro.  However, both models are very popular.

Okay, so if they are similarly priced then what’s the real difference?  Let’s compare some Contour and GoPro models side-by-side.

The Most Popular Contour Wearable Cameras

Our research revealed that the Contour Roam is the cheapest model available from the company.  However, at the time of this writing it is not well reviewed by customers on Amazon.com.  In fact, it only gets 3-1/2 out of 5 stars from the 47 reviews.  We mention it simply because it is  about $50 cheaper than the cheapest GoPro model.  The complaints lodged by reviewers include scratched lens after first use, poor sound and mic problems and expensive add-on mounts.

Conversely to the Contour Roam, the Contour Plus is the cadillac of the Contour wearable cameras.  Getting a resounding 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon after 27 separate reviews, this model features such things as a Bluetooth capability wherein you can use your iphone and other devices as a viewfinder, enables you to stream video and audio and is GPS enabled.

The Most Popular GoPro Wearable Cameras

The photo to the left is of the GoPro Hero 960, the cheapest and most popular GoPro HD Hero camera on Amazon.com.  A resounding 331 reviewers give this wearable camera 4 out of 5 stars.  One of the most popular qualities of this camera is the fact that it is waterproof up to 180 feet underware.  Additionally, reviewers loved the self-timer and triple shots features.

GoPro v Contour Wearable Cameras- And the Winner Is…???

Taking into consideration popularity, price, features, and availability, one  one would most likely come to the conclusion that the GoPro cameras are the winners.

And, in our humble opinion, there’s really only one Contour model worth chosing, the Contour Plus as the other models not only don’t have the features and capabilities but they also get dismal ratings from reviewers.

So our opinion is that you should choose any of the GoPro models.  And each GoPro model and Contour model has its positivies and negatives, so it really depends on what you are going to use the camera for and how much money you are willing to spend.
