What’s in the Box?
The ContourHD 1080p camera comes with a 2-GB MicroSD card, flat surface mount, goggle mount, and rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. It also comes with a USB cable and lens cap.
Image Quality
While it may not have the image quality of your traditional HD camcorder, the ContourHD helmet camera is superb when used in good lighting. Even in low light, video images are better than expected. Any under-exposure can be corrected in post production.
For fast action sports, the 720p video at 30 fps is amazingly smooth, with excellent color rendition, exposure and contrast. Standard definition mode offers a 90-degree field of view while the 135-degree fisheye lens records with minimal distortion. The helmet cam’s SD mode can also record at 60 frames per second for an incredibly smooth, action-packed video.
Performance in Low Light
With its small lens opening, the ContourHD 1080p is not that great when recording in low-light. The captured video is darker than the actual scene but still good enough for the typical sports enthusiast. Color retention is good even under poor lighting condition.
Audio Performance
With its built-in, omni-directional microphone, the ContourHD camera captures sounds that go with the action. The upgraded version of the ContourHD 1080p comes with an improved microphone that minimizes wind noise, which was the biggest drawback of previous versions.
Rotating Lens
One of the best features of the ContourHD action camera is the rotating front lens. This allows the camera to be mounted at any angle and still keep things horizontal. The camera is equipped with two built-in laser beams that aim at the camera’s point of focus and helps you level the camera lens before you start recording. You can always find a way to mount the camera and rotate the front lens to get your images upright and level.
Easy to Use for Action Clips
With its long and narrow design, the ContourHD 1080p camera remains stable even at higher speeds. When the camera is first turned on, two laser beams will shoot out in order to help you align the camera. To start recording, simply slide forward the large RECORD switch on top of the camera. The camera provides a single beep when the camera starts recording. It makes a double beep when you stop recording. This helpful feature makes it easy to activate the camera without the need to take it off its mount.
Camera Mounts
With a POV (point of view) camera like the ContourHD 1080p, you will be able to capture visuals that are difficult or impossible to capture using a traditional video camera. It is designed with a sliding mount system integrated into both sides of the camera body. Optional camera mounts are available for helmets, handlebars, tripods, ski goggles, etc. that you can slide into th
e grooved slots on either side of the camera. The goggle mount that comes with the camera allows a strap to pass between the mounting base and camera. In this position, the camera aims forward for the perfect POV shot.
Rugged Enough for All Conditions
With its tough, rugged aluminum body, the camera can take all sorts of outdoor abuse. It is water resistant but not waterproof. You can use the camera safely in snow, mud, rain, sleet to capture your epic adventures. An optional waterproof case allows the camera to handle depths up to 10 meters.
Customer Reviews
With its rugged build and excellent video quality, customers say the ContourHD camera is one of the best hands-free, point-of-view HD cameras around. It’s easy to operate in outdoor conditions and can handle all the abuse that comes with extreme sports such as snowboarding, skiing, biking, bungee jumping, skydiving, etc. Just remember to get the type of mounting you need for your adventure.
A number of customers find the lack of an LCD screen worrisome. But then again, an LCD is not really practical on a helmet-mounted camera. Some customers, however, would be happy to be able to make onboard adjustments and not have to use a computer to set the camera’s recording options.
Overall, customers say this is an extraordinary HD camcorder for capturing action and sport videos on the go. The ContourHD 1080p camera is highly recommended for outdoor and sport enthusiasts who want to document their adventures and share them with everyone.

“I bought this camera for deer hunting i’ve mounted it to my crossbow, shotgun and muzzleloader. I’ve used it during rain, snow and even had it covered in mud, very durable.Only downside i could find is that i wish the mounts were cheaper, the picitinny rail mount was 30 and i had to purchase a picitinny rail for my shotgun for 30, but as for the camera you can’t go wrong. …(read more here: ContourHD 1080 Camera Review)”
